Lost In A Forest

In class, we read Hatchet. we are learning how to do a reading response. we had to think of what the author's message was.

                        Hatchet Novel

                                Response

The amazing survival book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen is an amazing book. Brian the main character in the story went through a lot of trauma.

Brian is a 13-year-old boy that crash-landed a plane in an L-shaped lake in the Canadian forest with a dead pilot that just had a heart attack in the seat next to him and a hatchet that his mother gave him. Brian escaped the sinking plane with only some bruise and sore limbs, but that didn't stop him he kept going and he built a hut, got food, made a fire. He was learning the ways of nature.

I think the author's message was to be independent and keep trying. Since he was in the forest alone he had to fend for himself, with no one to help him when a tornado ruined his shelter he just built another little one, no one to feed him when he got hungry he kept trying to catch his fish and finally got one. He himself was the only one he could rely on.

I think the book Hatchet is amazing because in nature we can't always get what we want we have to get it ourselves. It teaches us we cant always rely on our parents, we earn our place by being our self not others.
